The route

A circular loop from Guwahati

Guwahati → Dirang → Tawang → Bumla Pass → Tawang → Zemithang → Lumla → Dirang → Guwahati

The circuit combines exhilarating mountain riding with culture, historic landmarks, high-altitude lakes and beautiful Himalayan valleys. Expect roughly 4 to 10 hours on the road each day, depending on road conditions, sightseeing stops and the day's route.

Itinerary

Day by day

Arrive in Guwahati, meet the expedition team and prepare for the ride. Pickup is from Guwahati Airport between 8:00 and 8:30 AM, and from Jalukbari at about 9:30 AM. After the trip briefing, set off towards Dirang through the scenic roads and landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh.

Ride towards Tawang through magnificent mountain scenery and over Se La Pass, subject to weather and road conditions. Visit the Jaswant Garh War Memorial on the way before arriving in Tawang for the night.

An early start for Bumla Pass, P.T. Tso Lake and the other high-altitude sights around Tawang, subject to permits and local restrictions. Return to Tawang after a full day in the mountains.

Ride towards Zemithang through remote Himalayan landscapes, peaceful settlements and mountain valleys — a quieter side of Arunachal Pradesh away from the main tourist circuit.

Continue to Lumla through picturesque villages and scenic mountain roads, and discover the culture and natural beauty of this lesser-explored region.

Begin the return towards Dirang, with plenty of mountain scenery and photo stops along the way. Arrive in Dirang and relax after another rewarding day on the road.

Travel back from Dirang to Guwahati, where the expedition ends. Please book your onward flight or train for after 7:00 PM to allow for road delays.

Bumla Pass access is subject to permit approval, security clearance and conditions on the day. Distances, timings, sightseeing stops and overnight arrangements are confirmed in the final operational itinerary.

Good to know

Before you ride

  • Early starts. Most riding days begin early to make the most of daylight and road conditions. Sunrise and sunset come early in the mountains, so rides are planned to finish before dark.
  • Bumla Pass. An early departure is needed because of weather, security procedures and Army permit requirements.
  • Meals. Breakfast is served before departure; dinner after reaching the overnight stay.
  • Mobile signal. Coverage is weak or absent in remote areas, particularly around Bumla Pass and Zemithang.
  • ID and permits. Carry your original government photo ID and your Inner Line Permit throughout the trip.
  • Weather and roads. Mountain travel is subject to weather, landslides, traffic and security restrictions, and the itinerary may change when necessary.
